Burak Bedenlier

burak bedenlier // burakbedenlier.blogspot.com //
I began my art education at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1996 and concluded with an MFA degree in 2004. I worked in the Sculpture Department of the same institution as a research assistant from 2002 to 2010. Since 2010 I have been working as a lecturer in the same department. Also during but particularly after my graduation I have been continuously practicing art and participating in various group exhibitions, some of which included also international participants, e.g. Mardin Biennale and Port Izmir II. Furthermore, since October 2009 I am a guest artist at the Art Center Istanbul residency program. Although my educational background lies in sculpture and the related techniques of the medium, I use a lot of different strategies and experiment with a rich variety of materials in my actual and practical works. This spans a broad range, such as from photographs to installations, from drawing to metal and wood, from water to religion, from wars to gift items, neither sporadic nor indistinct but all very attached to one another, which you will also recognize while viewing my portfolio.

Nuri Battal

Nuri Battal
Excerpt from ”IN THE ABSTRACT-SENSUAL FLUENCE OF “CATHARSIS”
Kaya Ozsezgin

Behind the form perception that the artist presents to viewers, tendency of reification of the order (cosmos) perception in the origin of the nature lies. Nuri Battal is not interested with the appearance world but meaning issue at the abstractive plan of the world. Due to that, he makes sharp references to this meaning by piling the forms which the paint does not cover completely with the help of light, by means of bringing light-dark differences forward, is bringing the emphasis dose of this sharpness forward. “Catharsis” term which means “purification” in Greek language, opens a door of a modern-origin spiritual relief in his paintings. Nuri Battal furrows in the paint with the hard end of a spatula or brush as he would like to unbind the tight-knit fabric of the tarpaulin, canalizes these furrows towards certain directions. Nuri Battal, also opens the way for opportunities which will deepen his message in terms of spiritually by means of this method. Thus, sympathy he feels for the Zen-Buddhist theories which have imbedded in his subconscious by being impressed sufficiently from the gracefulness of Far East philosophy in Japan during his
accommodation for three years have an important role in this situation. Instead of predetermining the path and the destinations to be arrived on this path, letting this to the natural flow is an expectable fact from the view point of viewers of Nuri Battal. Consequently viewer would like to keep alive and conserve the impression obtained by looking at the painting of him inside. This deliberate abstract search in the painting actually directly corresponds to the color and form design which Nuri Battal fictionalized and calls the viewer for a spontaneous appointment with a feeling of spiritual catharsis.
